Guest Instructor - Warrior Monk Shi De Cheng
Shi De Cheng was born with the name Chen Qiang Zhen in Henan Province to a farming family. Chen’s interest in martial arts began in childhood. He started training in gong fu (kung fu) at the age 6. He arrived at the Shaolin temple at the age of 13 to further pursue the study and training of gong fu.
His first teacher at the temple was De Ding. Four years later, Shi Su Yuan took Chen Qiang Zhen as his disciple and gave him the monk name Shi De Cheng. More than 20 years after arriving at the Shaolin Temple, Shi De Cheng opened his gong fu school in the nearby town of Deng Feng where he now teaches students from China and around the world.
Shaolin Kung Fu
Around 500 AD, a Buddhist monk named Bodhidarma traveled from India to China to spread the teachings of the Buddha. He settled at the Shaolin Temple (in todayÕs Henan Province). He brought with him Buddhist philosophies and exercises which he taught to the resident monks. Since then, Shaolin Kung Fu evolved to transform Chinese Kung Fu from military training and tactics to a vessel for physical, philosophical, and spiritual practice.
