Wu Dao is committed to achieving environmental sustainability through reducing, reusing, and recycling our consumption of energy and natural resources.
Wu Dao translates to the Martial Way. A martial artistÕs path is rooted in the pursuit of balance in body, mind, and spirit. Being conscious of changes within oneself as well as changes in the natural environment as a result of oneÕs choices and actions is inseparable from the practice of Chinese martial arts, which are developed in tandem with Asian philosophies such as Taoism and Buddhism that view humans as a part of the natural system.
At Wu Dao, you will find the following green features:
Energy Conservation
Compact fluorescent light bulbs and fluorescent lights are installed to decrease the energy consumption of the Wu Dao facility
Water Conservation
Wu Dao selected hardy plants for planting around the school that do not require much watering
Our toilets are low flush toilets that minimize water use
Material Conservation
Wu Dao encourages students to bring their own water bottles and provides shelves by the entrance of the training hall for students to keep water bottles easily accessible while students are in class.
Most receipts and invoices are sent electronically to prevent paper wastage.
Eco-Friendly Products
Our adult sized T-shirts are comfortable to wear and are made of 100% organic cotton, which is grown without harmful fertilizers and pesticides. Wu Dao will be introducing other apparel items made with environmentally sustainable fabrics right here in the United States.
Benjamin Moore’s Eco-Spec Low VOC paint reduces lingering toxic odor and is better for the environment. Similarly, water-based low VOC varnish is better for health and the environment than conventional polyurethane.
All of Wu Dao’s cleaning products are made with naturally derived ingredients rather than petrochemicals. The EO hand cleanser cleans and refreshes with organic essential oils. For all types of surface cleaning and scrubbing, we use products from eco-friendly manufacturers, such as Seventh Generation, ECover, and Bio-Kleen.
Recycling
Wu Dao actively recycles and has recycling bins conveniently located throughout the school. We seek to generate a minimal amount of trash destined for landfills.
Wu Dao recognizes that there is much that we are not doing and much more we can do to minimize our carbon and eco-footprint and invite our members to help us move in a positive direction.
